Dear Parents/Guardians,

We would love if you shared some photos of the activities that your son has been doing. Please email the photos to your class teacher and we will upload them onto the pupil section on the school website.

Please not that learning support and language support teachers have put up work separately on the website. If your son normally goes to learning support or language support then please look up the name of that teacher and complete work attached.

We hope you are all keeping well.

Kind Regards,

Ms. Farrelly and Mrs. Murphy.

Dear Boys,

A big hello to you all. We hope that you are all keeping well and enjoying this extra time at home.

We know that you must be beginning to miss your friends, school, swimming, hurling, judo or soccer training and all the other fun things that you do. We miss these activities too! I miss going to camogie training but instead we do a challenge each week. This weeks challenge is to see how many roll lifts I can do in 30 seconds! (Ms. Farrelly)  I miss going for walks with my friends on the Greenway. Instead I am walking around my garden, learning dance routines with my family and even jumping on the trampoline! (Mrs. Murphy)

We are both very proud of what you are doing. By staying at home you are helping to keep yourself and other people safe. You are all stay at home superheroes! It’s okay to feel sad or lonely at times, even adults feel like this sometimes, but if we follow the rules from the Government we will all be able to go back to normal soon.

We would love if you shared some pictures of the exciting activities you are doing at home. You can ask your parents to help you to email them to us.

Stay safe and keep being helpful at home, just like you are in school 🙂

Ms. Farrelly and Mrs. Murphy.

         Persuasive Writing

   – Persuasive writing is a type of writing where we try to convince others.

   – Key Language

   1. Persuade- means to convince someone to believe us or to do something.

   2. Topic- This is what you are trying to convince the person to do.

   3. Audience- This is the person/people you are trying to convince.

   4. Linking words- these are words we will use in our persuasive writing “because, and, also, another”

Task-Your task is to write a persuasive writing piece for this topic “Persuade your teacher to let you have more P.E time each week”.

Step 1- Brainstorm reasons why you think your class should get extra P.E time.

Step 2-Pick the best 3 or 4 ideas and write them into proper sentences using the linkage words to help it to flow. This will form your middle paragraph.

Step 3- Write your introduction paragraph where you state the topic and your ending paragraph where you remind your audience of what you want them to do or believe.

Sample Persuasive Writing

 Dear Mam,

I should be allowed to redecorate my own room.

I should be allowed to redecorate my own room because I no longer like Shaun the Sheep who is painted all over the walls. I am also older now so I could do most of the redecorating myself. Another reason is I could create more space for my lego pieces and I wouldn’t be taking up so much of the sitting room.

These are the reasons you should let me redecorate my own room.

Week 2 Maths

-Each day ask your child the following questions: What day is it? What day was yesterday? What day will tomorrow be? What date is it? What season is it? What month is it? What date will this day next week be? etc..

-Tables + 7

-Practice counting from 100-200

-Count in 10s from 10 to 200. Use a 100/200 square to help.

-Revise 1/4 past and 1/4 to on the analogue and digital clock.

Money

-Most of this is revision. Some children may have struggled with the 4th learning goal listed below.

Information for parents-in 2nd Class the following is what the child should know:

1. Child should recognise all coins.

2. Child should be able to make money values up to 2 euro in different ways.

3. Child should be able to change between cent and euro and vice versa for example £1.50 is the same as 150c.

4. Child should be able to get the change up to the value of 2 euro.

-Planet Maths 2nd Class pages 150, 151, 152, 153, 154.  www.edcolearning.ie

-Cracking Maths 2nd Class pages 111 and 147.  https://www.gillexplore.ie/products

(Note-Ms. Farrelly’s class usually use an open number line to solve “get the change” sums. Below is an example of how this works. The boys should be familiar with the term “open number line”. Alternatively a 100 square can be used)

Open Number Line Example

Mrs Murphy’s class use a similar strategy where we count onto the nearest 5c or 10c, 50c or euro.

Eg. €1.78 – €1.80 – €1.90 – €2.00

                 2c         10c      10c        =22c

       95c – €1.00 – €2.00

              5c         €1           = €1.05

This we use along with the 100 square.
