This 2 week plan applies to all boys in Mrs Moore/Mrs Walker and Ms Power’s 1st Class from Monday 20th April – Fri 1st May.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are all keeping well. Please find below subject notes and work for the boys for the next 2 weeks, to continue working on at home. We hope that ye will be able to access the e-books online and the children have a copy or notepad to write their work into. However there is no pressure to complete work, just do what you can and more importantly please continue to look after yourselves and stay safe. English:

Spellings:

·      Weekly spellings can be accessed in the Spellbound 1 e-book on www.cjfallon.ie. If you are unable to access e-books here are the lists for the previous fortnight:

Wk 23 – life, wife, pile, tile, fire, wire, rise, wise, five, hive, dive, bite, lime, mime, dime, time

Wk 24 – (this was a revision week with exercises only, no new spellings)

 

·      The following spellings are for the coming fortnight:

Wk 25 – cone, bone, lone, zone, coke, poke, joke, woke, note, rode, mole, pole, more, home, nose, rose.

Wk 26 – bank, sank, rank, tank, cage, page, rage, wage, cure, pure, mule, rule, cute, tube, huge, tune

 

·           Boys should learn four spellings a night.

·           Put each word into a sentence and write these sentences out in a copy.

·           Test your child on all 16 words on Friday by mixing them up when calling them out and boys writing them without help.

Writing:

 

·         Write a short story about ‘The Adventures of the Easter Bunny’!

*Remember that a story has (1) a beginning, (2) a middle and (3) an end.  In the beginning you write about when the story happened, the setting (where) and introduce the main character.  In the middle there is usually a problem. In the end we have a resolution (solution to the problem) and a conclusion.

·         Write out ‘My News’ once a week – 3 or 4 sentences about what you have been doing and draw a picture

·         Freewriting once a week – choose your own topic e.g. ‘My ‘Lego’ Project’, ‘What I do for exercise’ etc.

·         Write a ‘character profile’ about the main character in one of the books you read last week.

 

*Don’t forget the following rules when writing:

– A capital letter at the start of a sentence,

– A finger space between each word,

– A full stop at the end of a sentence.

 

Handwriting:

·         Practice handwriting the following capital letters: A, B, C, D, E, and F

    Please look online for proper capital letter formation

 

Grammar:

·           Revision of the magic ‘e’

·           Google the ‘Magic e song’

·           If you can access/download the ‘A Way with Words 1’ e-book from www.cjfallon.ie  please complete p60, p66, p70, p76 and  p80

 

 

Comprehension:

·           If you can access/download the ‘A Way with Words 1’ e-book from www.cjfallon.ie  please read ‘The Nest’ on page 68 and complete p69.

Oral Language:

·         Continue to enable your child to speak and be listened to – ask your child questions and listen to what they have to say.

·         Continue to speak to them about how they are feeling, how their days are going, things they might like to do, their favourite games, tv programmes, friends, foods, drinks, places they’ll look forward to going to and things they’ll look forward to doing when everything is back to normal.

·         Continue to discuss stories they have read, news, weather, nature, tv programmes, games they play etc.

Weekly Tables and Oral Maths:

·         Subtraction tables -10 and -11 (Google ‘subtraction tables’ online)

·         Continue to play ‘Tables Champion’ daily with your child.

·         Test you child each Friday by calling out 10 of these tables randomly for them to write down and answer.

·         Continue practising skip counting in 2,’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s and 10’s   e.g. 4, 8, 12, 16, 20

·         Playing games such as ‘Monopoly’, ‘Connect Four’, ‘Snakes and Ladders’, card games etc. are fun and will incorporate maths operations.

 

Written Maths:

·         Please access the 1st class ‘Cracking Maths’ e-book on www.gillexplore.ie/products to complete the following work in a copy:

 

·         Topic 1 – Time: Be able to recognise and read ‘o’clock’ and ‘half past’ on a clock

    Complete worksheet pages 129, 130 and 131

 

·         Topic 2 – 100 Square: Be able to say the numbers before, after, between, below and above a given number in the 100 square

    Complete worksheet pages 81 and 127

 

·       Topic 3 – Money: Practice counting and adding coins

– Complete worksheet pages 93 – 96

 

 

Science:

The Frog:

·         Draw a diagram of the life cycle of the frog and label it (Google an example of it:  eggs/ spawn – tadpole – tadpole with legs – young frog – adult frog)

 

Birds:

·         Draw a bird, identifying and labelling the parts of the bird e.g. tail, wing, beak, feathers, legs etc.

 

·         Watch a video on You Tube of a ‘bird building a nest’. 

 

·         Write out a list of items birds use to build their nests.

 

·         Google and be able identify some common Irish birds e.g. crow, sea gull, blackbird, robin, cuckoo, magpie.

 

·         List them, then choose one and write 5 sentences about it.

 

·         Fun activity: Google ‘3d animals’!

 

 

 

Geography:

Transport:

·         Write out a list of the different types of transport we use e.g. bicycle, car, train, plane etc.

 

·         You Tube ‘Modes of Transport’

 

·         Choose your favourite, draw a picture of it and write about its features e.g. size, model, number of wheels, how many passengers it can carry etc.

 

·         If you can access/download the 1st Class ‘Explore with Me’ e-book from www.edcolearning.ie please read about ‘Transport Around the World’ p64 and write out answers in a copy.

 

·         Fun activity: Make some different forms of transport out of Lego!

 

 

 

 

History:

Christopher Columbus:

·         Google ‘Christopher Columbus for kids’ online and You Tube ‘Christopher Columbus, educational videos for kids’.
