Maths for this fortnight is based on money and time.

Money 

 

Can you name the coins? They are all “cent” coins not euro. 

Adding money

Start counting with the coin of the largest value, this  helps when you are adding large amounts.

Tap on each coin to show the number -eg 5c -five taps; 2c -2 taps; 10 cent -10 taps.

To count them up, add the taps

start with ten taps, add on five more and then 2 more=

10c         +                            5c            +            2c  =    17 cents 

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10         11,12,13,14,15,  16,17= 17 cents  in total

 There are extra pages on time on Pages 158-161 Busy at Maths 1 using the www.cjfallon.ie link 
Practice with your kitchen clock at home. If you don’t have one, this app is a great way to move the hands forward an hour and practice reading the time.

The word “after” means the same as “later”.

Thursday: 
 What does the big hand tell us? -The minutes. 
What does the small hand tell us? The hour.
Look at the big hand at half past six. It is on the six. When you move the big hand, the small hand does too.  It keeps moving towards the next hour. When the big hand moves a full circle around the clock once, it is one hour later.
